How to get your children vaccinated against the measles

Health officials have issued an alert for anyone who might be thinking about getting vaccinated against measles.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the virus was “a growing and increasingly common threat” that was spreading “profoundly” among children.

CDC Director Dr. Thomas Frieden said parents should take extra precautions and be “very vigilant” when traveling.

“It’s a matter of health, not only for you but for your children,” Frieden told a news conference.

Frieden urged parents to “keep the conversation on the front burner” and stay informed on the virus.

A vaccine can prevent one of the deadliest and most contagious diseases known to man, he said.

It’s not known whether the new vaccines will be effective in preventing measles.
